Sunlighten Sauna Health Benefits

Infrared therapy, also known as infrared light therapy or infrared radiation therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses infrared light (a type of electromagnetic radiation) to help alleviate pain, improve circulation, and promote healing in tissues. This form of therapy typically uses infrared light wavelengths that are longer than visible light but shorter than microwaves.

Heart Health

Strengthen Your Heart.

Infrared saunas use infrared light to heat the body directly, rather than heating the air around you, as traditional saunas do. This type of heat therapy has been suggested to have potential benefits for heart health in various ways. Here's a breakdown of how infrared sauna sessions might impact heart health:

  1. Improved Circulation: The heat from an infrared sauna increases blood flow by causing blood vessels to dilate, which improves circulation. This can help the heart pump blood more effectively, which is beneficial for overall cardiovascular health.

  2. Lower Blood Pressure: Some studies suggest that regular use of an infrared sauna may lead to a reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The heat can relax blood vessels and improve vascular function, which may help manage high blood pressure over time.

  3. Enhanced Heart Function: The increase in heart rate from the heat exposure in an infrared sauna can mimic the effects of moderate exercise. This can help improve cardiovascular endurance, heart function, and overall fitness.

  4. Stress Reduction: Infrared saunas can help relax the body and reduce stress levels. Chronic stress is a significant risk factor for heart disease, so reducing stress through relaxation in the sauna may contribute to heart health.

  5. Detoxification: The sweating induced by an infrared sauna session may help the body eliminate certain toxins and waste products. While more research is needed to fully understand the impact of detoxification on heart health, some believe it could help reduce the burden on the cardiovascular system by promoting overall body health.

  6. Reduction in Inflammation: Inflammation plays a key role in cardiovascular disease. Infrared sauna use may help reduce systemic inflammation, which can have a positive impact on heart health.

While the evidence supporting these benefits is still growing, many studies indicate that infrared saunas could be a complementary therapy for improving heart health, particularly when used in conjunction with other healthy lifestyle practices like exercise, proper nutrition, and stress management. However, individuals with heart conditions should consult their healthcare provider before using infrared saunas to ensure safety.

Muscle Recovery

Recover Faster.

Infrared therapy, particularly infrared light or heat, is increasingly used for muscle recovery due to its potential therapeutic effects on soft tissue and overall healing. Here's how infrared therapy can aid in muscle recovery:

  1. Increased Blood Flow: Infrared light stimulates the blood vessels, causing them to dilate. This leads to improved circulation and oxygen delivery to the muscles, which helps speed up the healing process after exercise or injury. Enhanced blood flow helps clear metabolic waste products (like lactic acid) from muscles, reducing soreness.

  2. Reduced Muscle Soreness: After intense physical activity or a workout, muscles can become sore or stiff. Infrared heat can help to relax tense muscles, reduce discomfort, and decrease recovery time by enhancing circulation and promoting the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.

  3. Improved Tissue Healing: Infrared therapy may promote cellular regeneration by increasing the production of collagen, a protein that helps repair and strengthen tissues. This can be particularly beneficial for muscle strain or injury recovery.

  4. Decreased Inflammation: Infrared therapy has been shown to reduce inflammation, which is a common cause of pain and discomfort after exercise or injury. By lowering inflammation, infrared therapy helps accelerate recovery and improve mobility.

  5. Relaxation and Pain Relief: The soothing warmth from infrared therapy can reduce muscle tightness and promote relaxation, helping to alleviate both acute and chronic muscle pain. This can also enhance overall recovery by helping the body recover in a less-stressed state.

  6. Enhanced Range of Motion: By relaxing the muscles and promoting better blood circulation, infrared therapy may help to improve flexibility and joint mobility. This can help athletes or active individuals recover faster and return to their activities with less stiffness.

Infrared therapy can be a valuable tool for muscle recovery by promoting circulation, reducing inflammation, and speeding up the healing process. While it is not a substitute for proper rest, nutrition, and chiropractic care, or physical activity, it can serve as a helpful adjunct to a comprehensive recovery routine. As with any therapy, it’s important to consult a healthcare provider to ensure it’s appropriate for your specific needs.

Anti-Aging

Renew Your Skin.

Infrared therapy, particularly the use of infrared light or heat, is gaining popularity as a potential anti-aging treatment due to its various effects on skin health and cellular function. Here's an overview of how infrared therapy can play a role in anti-aging:

  1. Collagen Production: One of the key benefits of infrared therapy for anti-aging is its ability to stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a vital protein that gives skin its structure, firmness, and elasticity. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. Infrared light has been shown to promote the synthesis of collagen, helping to improve skin tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and restore a youthful appearance.

  2. Improved Circulation: Infrared therapy helps increase blood flow by dilating blood vessels and improving circulation. Better circulation means that oxygen and nutrients are more efficiently delivered to skin cells, while waste products like toxins are removed more effectively. This supports healthy skin, promotes a natural glow, and can help reduce the signs of aging such as dull or uneven skin tone.

  3. Cellular Regeneration and Repair: Infrared light penetrates deep into the skin, stimulating the cells to regenerate and repair themselves. This process can help reduce age spots, sun damage, and other skin imperfections, leading to smoother, more youthful-looking skin. It may also help accelerate healing after minor skin injuries or cosmetic treatments.

  4. Reduction of Inflammation: Chronic inflammation contributes to aging at the cellular level, known as "inflammaging." Infrared therapy has anti-inflammatory effects, helping to reduce redness, puffiness, and irritation in the skin. By addressing underlying inflammation, infrared light therapy may slow the visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity.

  5. Detoxification: Infrared therapy induces sweating, which can help detoxify the skin by eliminating toxins and impurities through the sweat glands. This can improve skin clarity, texture, and health, contributing to a more youthful appearance.

  6. Improved Skin Tone and Texture: By promoting the production of collagen and elastin, infrared therapy can help improve skin texture, making it smoother and more even. The therapy can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin sagging, making the skin look firmer and more resilient.

Infrared therapy offers multiple benefits that can support anti-aging by improving skin health, reducing wrinkles, enhancing collagen production, and promoting overall cellular repair. While it may not completely reverse the aging process, it can be an effective adjunct to other anti-aging treatments like skincare, proper nutrition, and lifestyle changes. As with any treatment, it’s best to consult with a skincare or medical professional to determine if infrared therapy is appropriate for your individual needs.

Detoxification

Sweat Better.

Sweating is an essential bodily function that helps regulate body temperature and maintain homeostasis. For patients, understanding the importance of sweating can be crucial, especially in conditions that affect the body’s ability to sweat properly. Here's why sweating is important:

  1. Regulation of Body Temperature: Sweating helps cool the body down when it becomes too hot. As sweat evaporates from the skin, it removes excess heat, preventing overheating, which can be dangerous.

  2. Detoxification: Sweating also helps in the removal of small amounts of waste products, including salts, urea, and other metabolic byproducts. This is a minor route of detoxification, supporting overall health.

  3. Skin Health: Sweat helps to moisturize the skin, preventing dryness and maintaining the skin's natural barrier. It can also support the skin's natural microbiome by creating an environment that resists the growth of harmful microorganisms

  4. Indication of Health: Changes in sweating patterns (such as excessive sweating or lack of sweating) can indicate health problems. For instance, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) or reduced sweating (anhidrosis) can be symptoms of underlying medical conditions such as infections, hormonal imbalances, or nerve disorders.

  5. Physical Performance: Sweating is a response to physical exertion. During exercise, the body produces sweat to cool itself down, which helps maintain optimal performance levels and prevent heat-related illnesses, like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

  • For patients who experience issues with sweating, such as those with certain neurological, hormonal, or skin conditions, it’s important to monitor and address any changes in sweating patterns. In some cases, treatment or lifestyle adjustments may be necessary to ensure the body can sweat effectively to maintain a safe and healthy internal temperature.

Relaxation

Truly Relax and De-stress.

  1. Heat Generation: Infrared radiation directly penetrates the skin and deeper tissues to generate heat. This heat helps to increase blood flow and relax muscles, providing relief from pain, stiffness, and soreness.

  2. Improved Circulation: Infrared therapy helps dilate blood vessels, which leads to improved circulation. This enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to tissues while also promoting the removal of waste products.

  3. Pain Relief: The heat from infrared therapy helps reduce muscle and joint pain by increasing circulation, reducing inflammation, and relaxing tense muscles.

  4. Muscle Relaxation and Recovery: Infrared therapy is often used to promote muscle relaxation and speed up muscle recovery after intense physical activity. The heat penetrates the muscles, reduces tension, and alleviates soreness. It may also help in reducing stiffness and improving flexibility.

  5. Detoxification: Sweating induced by infrared therapy helps eliminate toxins from the body. As the body heats up, sweat glands open up, flushing out impurities and promoting a healthy, clear complexion. This can also support the body's natural detoxification processes.

  6. Wound Healing: Infrared light can promote faster healing of wounds by stimulating cell regeneration and increasing circulation to the affected area. It helps in tissue repair and can speed up the recovery process for minor injuries, cuts, or surgical procedures.

  7. Reduction of Inflammation: Chronic inflammation is a key factor in many health conditions, including pain, aging, and disease. Infrared therapy can reduce inflammation by increasing blood flow and promoting the release of anti-inflammatory agents, which helps to calm down the body’s inflammatory response.

  8. Stress Relief: The warmth from infrared therapy helps relax the body and mind, reducing levels of cortisol (the stress hormone). This can improve mood and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, contributing to a sense of well-being.

It is important to use infrared therapy as part of a comprehensive wellness routine and consult with a healthcare provider when necessary to ensure it’s suitable for your specific needs.

Immunity

Stay Healthy.

Infrared therapy can stimulate the immune system in several beneficial ways. Here’s how infrared therapy may contribute to immune system stimulation:

1. Improved Circulation and Blood Flow

Infrared therapy increases circulation by promoting vasodilation (widening of blood vessels). As blood flow improves, oxygen and nutrients are more efficiently delivered to tissues, while waste products and toxins are more effectively removed. This enhanced circulation helps the immune system by ensuring that immune cells, like white blood cells, can circulate more efficiently throughout the body and reach areas of infection or inflammation.

2. Enhanced Lymphatic Drainage

The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in the body’s immune response, as it helps filter out toxins, pathogens, and waste products, and transports immune cells. Infrared therapy can promote lymphatic drainage by stimulating the flow of lymph fluid, which enhances the body’s ability to remove toxins and support immune function. This can help the body defend against infections and inflammation more effectively.

3. Increased White Blood Cell Activity

White blood cells are a critical part of the immune system, responsible for identifying and fighting off foreign invaders, such as viruses, bacteria, and cancer cells. Infrared therapy has been shown to potentially stimulate the production and activity of white blood cells. This enhanced immune cell activity allows the body to respond more rapidly and effectively to threats.

4. Reducing Inflammation

Chronic inflammation is often a signal of immune dysfunction and can contribute to various diseases and conditions. Infrared therapy has anti-inflammatory effects, which help to modulate the immune response and reduce inflammation in the body. By lowering levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (molecules that signal inflammation), infrared therapy can help regulate the immune system and reduce unnecessary or chronic inflammation.

5. Stress Reduction and Immune Support

Chronic stress is known to suppress immune function, as it leads to the overproduction of cortisol (the stress hormone), which can weaken the immune response. Infrared therapy induces a calming, soothing effect on the body, helping to reduce stress and lower cortisol levels. By promoting relaxation, infrared therapy can indirectly support immune function, as a less stressed body tends to have a more robust immune response.

6. Detoxification and Immune Health

Infrared therapy promotes sweating, which is one of the body’s natural mechanisms for detoxification. Sweating helps remove toxins, heavy metals, and other waste products from the body. By supporting detoxification, infrared therapy reduces the toxic burden on the body, allowing the immune system to work more efficiently and without additional stress from accumulated waste or pathogens.

7. Enhanced Cellular Regeneration

Infrared therapy helps stimulate cellular repair and regeneration. When cells are healthier, they are better equipped to perform their immune-related functions. Infrared light, particularly near-infrared, penetrates deep into tissues and can promote the regeneration of damaged cells, which includes the cells involved in the immune response. This supports overall immune function and helps the body recover from infections or injuries more quickly.

Infrared therapy has several mechanisms that can positively affect the immune system, including improved circulation, enhanced lymphatic drainage, increased white blood cell activity, reduced inflammation, stress reduction, detoxification, and cellular regeneration. By supporting these processes, infrared therapy helps strengthen the body’s natural defenses and contributes to overall immune health. However, it’s important to note that infrared therapy is a complementary treatment and should be used alongside other healthy habits like proper nutrition, exercise, and sufficient rest to maintain optimal immune function.

Sleep

Improve Your Sleep.

Infrared Sauna and Its Effect on Sleep:

Infrared sauna therapy has been shown to have positive effects on sleep quality due to its ability to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and regulate body temperature. Here’s how infrared saunas can help improve sleep:

1. Promotes Relaxation

The heat from an infrared sauna helps to relax the muscles and calms the nervous system. This sense of physical relaxation makes it easier for the body to transition into a restful state, which can be beneficial for people who experience tension or stress before bed. By inducing a state of deep relaxation, infrared saunas can prepare the body and mind for better sleep.

2. Reduces Stress and Anxiety

One of the key factors that disrupt sleep is stress. Infrared sauna therapy can help lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol by promoting relaxation and reducing muscle tension. This reduction in stress can improve sleep quality and help you fall asleep faster. Additionally, the warm, calming environment of the sauna can contribute to a feeling of well-being and peace, which further aids in reducing anxiety before bedtime.

3. Improves Circulation and Oxygenation

Infrared saunas enhance blood circulation by increasing the dilation of blood vessels, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach your muscles and tissues. Better circulation can help regulate the body's overall functioning, leading to improved physical recovery and relaxation. As your body recovers and stabilizes, it becomes easier to enter a restful sleep state.

4. Regulation of Body Temperature

A key component of good sleep is the regulation of your body’s core temperature. The body naturally cools down before sleep, signaling to the brain that it’s time to rest. Infrared saunas induce sweating and elevate body temperature, which then drops rapidly after leaving the sauna. This cooling down process mimics the natural decrease in body temperature that occurs before sleep, helping to promote deeper and more restful sleep.

5. Alleviates Pain and Discomfort

For people who struggle with pain or discomfort that keeps them awake at night, infrared saunas can provide relief. The heat from the sauna penetrates deeply into the muscles and tissues, helping to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve joint flexibility. This can lead to better comfort and a more restful night’s sleep, particularly for those with chronic pain or muscle tension.

6. Enhances Detoxification

Sweating induced by infrared saunas helps detoxify the body by eliminating toxins through the skin. A cleaner body, free from accumulated waste products, may help improve sleep. When the body is not burdened by toxins, it can function more efficiently, including improving sleep quality.

7. Improved Mood and Endorphin Release

Infrared sauna therapy can boost the release of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” hormones. This can lead to a reduction in mood-related issues, such as depression or irritability, which can interfere with sleep. Improved mood can help ease the transition into a restful state and promote a peaceful night’s sleep.

Infrared sauna therapy can positively impact sleep by promoting relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety, improving circulation, regulating body temperature, relieving pain, supporting detoxification, and enhancing mood. These combined effects can help people achieve better sleep quality and duration. For individuals who struggle with insomnia, poor sleep quality, or sleep disturbances related to pain or stress, using an infrared sauna before bedtime may be a useful, natural tool to improve their sleep.

As always, it’s important to listen to your body and, if you have any specific sleep disorders or health conditions, consult with a healthcare provider to ensure infrared sauna therapy is appropriate for you.

Weight Loss

Increase Metabolism.

Infrared sauna therapy is increasingly popular as a potential tool for weight loss and overall health improvement. While it is not a magic solution for shedding pounds, it may support weight loss efforts when combined with a healthy lifestyle, including proper diet and regular exercise. Here's how infrared sauna therapy can potentially contribute to weight loss:

1. Increased Calorie Burn

Infrared saunas heat the body directly, causing an increase in core body temperature. This elevated temperature makes the body work harder to cool itself down, similar to the way it reacts during physical exercise. As a result, the body’s metabolic rate increases, which leads to more calories being burned during an infrared sauna session. Depending on the session length and individual factors, people may burn anywhere from 300 to 600 calories in a typical 30-minute session.

While infrared sauna sessions don’t provide the same calorie burn as an intense workout, they can supplement an active lifestyle by promoting additional calorie expenditure in a relaxed setting.

2. Increased Circulation and Detoxification

Infrared saunas help improve circulation by dilating blood vessels, which increases blood flow and helps the body deliver oxygen and nutrients more efficiently to tissues. This enhanced circulation also aids in detoxification by encouraging sweating and the elimination of toxins from the body. Some of these toxins (such as heavy metals or environmental pollutants) can contribute to bloating or metabolic imbalances, so reducing them may support a more efficient metabolism and weight management.

The removal of excess toxins through sweat can lead to improved overall health, potentially supporting weight loss by reducing factors like bloating and inflammation.

3. Reduction in Water Retention

Infrared sauna therapy induces sweating, which helps to temporarily reduce water weight and bloating. Many people experience a reduction in puffiness and a feeling of lightness after sauna sessions. While this is not fat loss, it can give individuals a feeling of slimmer appearance and may motivate them to continue with healthy habits that lead to real fat loss.

4. Stress Reduction and Cortisol Regulation

Chronic stress leads to the production of cortisol, a hormone that, in excess, can encourage fat storage, particularly in the abdominal area. Infrared sauna therapy has a relaxing effect on the body and has been shown to reduce cortisol levels. By promoting relaxation and reducing stress, infrared saunas can help combat stress-related weight gain and encourage a more balanced hormonal environment conducive to weight loss.

5. Improved Recovery and Muscle Health

Infrared sauna therapy helps relax muscles, reduce soreness, and promote recovery. This can be particularly beneficial for those who exercise regularly. By reducing muscle pain and stiffness, infrared saunas can improve post-workout recovery, making it easier to engage in regular physical activity. Regular exercise, combined with infrared sauna sessions, can help increase muscle mass and reduce body fat, which supports long-term weight loss goals.

6. Improved Sleep

Quality sleep is a critical factor in weight loss. Lack of sleep or poor-quality sleep can disrupt hormones that regulate hunger (like ghrelin and leptin) and can lead to increased appetite and cravings. Infrared sauna therapy promotes relaxation and can improve sleep quality by helping the body unwind and reducing stress. Better sleep can help regulate appetite and support healthier weight management.

7. Enhancement of Fat Metabolism

Some research suggests that infrared sauna therapy may enhance the breakdown of fat cells, although the evidence is still limited. Heat exposure, especially prolonged heat from infrared saunas, may stimulate the production of heat shock proteins, which have been linked to cellular repair and metabolic improvements, potentially supporting fat loss over time.

Conclusion

Infrared sauna therapy may support weight loss efforts by increasing calorie burn, improving circulation, reducing water retention, lowering stress, and enhancing muscle recovery. While it is not a standalone solution for significant weight loss, it can be a helpful addition to a comprehensive weight loss program that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, and good sleep habits. It's important to remember that sustainable weight loss requires a combination of consistent lifestyle changes, and infrared sauna therapy can be a complementary tool to aid in that process.

As always, before starting any new therapy or weight loss program, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure it’s appropriate for your individual needs and health conditions.

Chromotherapy

Every Sunlighten sauna comes with built-in chromotherapy to enhance your sauna experience and transform your mental well being further.

Chromotherapy, also known as color therapy, is an alternative healing practice that uses colors to influence physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. The idea behind chromotherapy is that different colors have specific vibrations and wavelengths that can impact the body and mind, potentially restoring balance and promoting healing.

How Chromotherapy Works:
Chromotherapy is based on the belief that colors are a form of energy that can be used to restore balance to the body’s energy fields, or chakras. It is thought that the human body responds to different colors in varying ways, influencing mood, health, and emotional states. The therapy can be administered through colored light, visual exposure, or colored fabrics.

Commonly Used Colors in Chromotherapy and Their Effects:

Red: Often associated with energy, warmth, and stimulation. It is thought to improve circulation, increase energy, and stimulate physical activity. It may be used to treat fatigue, low vitality, or depression.
Blue: Known for its calming and relaxing properties. It is believed to have a cooling effect, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation. Blue is often used to help with stress, anxiety, and insomnia.
Yellow: Linked to mental clarity, focus, and happiness. It is thought to stimulate the nervous system and enhance concentration. Yellow may be used to treat digestive issues or to uplift the mood.
Green: Symbolizes balance, harmony, and renewal. Green is thought to have a calming effect on the body and mind and is associated with healing and regeneration. It may be used to reduce anxiety and promote physical healing.
Orange: A color that represents vitality, creativity, and joy. Orange is thought to stimulate the immune system and increase energy levels. It may be used to help with digestive issues, emotional blockages, or to improve mood.
Purple/Violet: Often used for spiritual healing, relaxation, and meditation. Purple is thought to enhance intuition, relieve stress, and promote mental clarity. It is often used for spiritual growth and emotional healing.
White: Associated with purity, clarity, and spiritual cleansing. White light contains all colors of the spectrum and is believed to have a purifying effect, promoting overall well-being.
Indigo: Linked to intuition, deep thinking, and spiritual awareness. Indigo is thought to aid in emotional and mental clarity, and is often used to promote deep relaxation and meditation.

While the scientific evidence supporting chromotherapy is limited, many people report positive effects from its use, particularly for relaxation and emotional well-being. Like other alternative therapies, chromotherapy should be considered a complementary approach, rather than a primary treatment for medical conditions. If someone is experiencing significant health issues, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Contraindications for Sauna Infrared Therapy

Medical Conditions
If any of the below apply to you, consult your physician prior to sauna use:

  • Cardiovascular Issues, Obesity or Diabetes – Individuals suffering from obesity or with a medical history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems, or diabetes should consult a physician prior to use. Heat stress increases cardiac output and blood flow in an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body temperature.
  • Medications – Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their personal physician since some medications may induce drowsiness, while others may affect heart rate, blood pressure and circulation. Diuretics, barbiturates, and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics, such as amitriptyline, may inhibit sweating and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke. Some over-the-counter drugs, such as antihistamines, may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.
  • Alcohol & Drug Abuse – Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “sweat out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment; therefore, he/she may not realize when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress. The use of alcohol, drugs, or medications prior to a sauna session may lead to unconsciousness.
  • Elderly – The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature. If elderly, operate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time.
  • Children – The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands, and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. When using with a child, operate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time.
  • Chronic Conditions / Diseases Associated with Reduced Ability to Sweat or Perspire – Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors, and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating. Consult a physician.
  • Hemophiliacs / Individuals Prone to Bleeding – The use of infrared saunas should be avoided by anyone who is predisposed to bleeding.
  • Fever & Insensitivity to Heat – Individuals with insensitivity to heat or who have a fever should not use the sauna until the fever subsides.
  • Pregnancy – Pregnant women should consult a physician before using an infrared sauna.
  • Menstruation – Heating of the low back area of women during the menstrual period may temporarily increase menstrual flow. This should not preclude sauna use.
  • Joint Injury – Recent (acute) joint injury should not be heated for the first 48 hours or until the swollen symptoms subside. Joints that are chronically hot and swollen may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind.
  • Implants – Metal pins, rods, artificial joints, or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using.
  • Pacemakers / Defibrillators – The magnets used to assemble our saunas can interrupt the pacing and inhibit the output of pacemakers. Please discuss with your doctor the possible risks this may cause.

In the rare event that you experience pain or discomfort, immediately discontinue sauna use.

Sunligthen Infrared Therapy Technology

SoloCarbon Coating

To stimulate health benefits, saunas need a source to emit high concentrations of peak infrared waves—not just heat. That’s why Sunlighten worked with a chemistry expert named Dr. Ronald Lewarchik to develop their patented coating to create a highly emissive surface. The result: a unique finish that maximizes the highest quality and quantity of infrared called, SoloCarbon. The SoloCarbon coating is a black ceramic pigment applied over the substrate. It’s on all the Sunlighten sauna heaters.

mPulse® 3 in 1® uses a base of flexible Kapton polyimide for temperature control.

The really special ingredient is Sunlighten patented coating is the pièce de résistance: they sprinkle copper chromium to create that unique, near-perfect emissive surface only available with Sunlighten. This unique process makes their heaters 99% emissive, safe and effective.

Heating Elements

Sunlighten owns and oversees our process from design to manufacture to delivery. It begins with a careful layer of wiring coated for protection. We cure each of the 3 layers at 320°. No other manufacturers go to that length.

Red Light Therapy Panels

In mPulse saunas, LED panels give you your own visible red light and near infrared light therapy tool, strategically placed for optimal therapy. Sunlighten used NASA research to develop an LED array of single wavelength Red Light and NIR with minimal variability and undetectable heat and light. A single blue LED light lets you know it’s on.
